There's nothing I enjoy more than being out with my camera trying to create an image from the beautiful scene that's in front of me. However, just being there with a camera is very rarely enough to come home with a great picture. I've spent well over half my lifetime working out how to return with the image I had seen in my minds' eye. For a great deal of those years I have been a professional photographer and sharing my experience with others is very rewarding so if your objective is to understand your camera in a little more depth or to return home knowing how to capture "that scene" I'd love to help.
Tuition sessions take place at locations around Beaconsfield, Amersham, High Wycombe and Aylesbury plus all areas of Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. They last for three hours and can be on a individual basis (1-2-1), two people (2-2-1), three people (3-2-1), or four people (4-2-1).
All tuition sessions are tailored to ensure that you come away with your questions answered and much more besides. I would expect us to be taking photos together then compare and discuss the different viewpoints, lens choices and settings.
After booking It would be useful to let me know what level you think you might be or if there are any specifics you'd like to cover,
The simple answer is anyone who wants to get more out of their camera. You may be a beginner wanting to understand how a camera works and what you should be watching out for when when looking through the viewfinder...
...or you may already have some skills and knowledge around photography but would would like to develop them further and understand new techniques.
To help guide you a little have a look at the descriptions below. If you're still not sure it's no problem we can address anything you want, whether it's the basics or some more advanced techniques.
Predominantly aimed at beginners, you may have bought yourself or been given camera with all sorts of dials, buttons and modes that you have no idea about so by the end of your session you'll have a much better understanding of how a camera works, what options it offers, and if they are relevant to you.
Other topics that could be covered at this level include:
Anatomy of a camera
The exposure triangle
Creative modes on your camera
Basic software editing
You may have a grasp of the basics and want to build on the knowledge you already have. You may feel that you could get more out of your camera but are not sure how. Perhaps there are techniques you've read about which we can discuss or an image with a certain effect that you want to know how to create.
We may also discuss subjects that involve some of the following:
Depth of field
Composition rules and when to break them
Lighting and weather conditions.
Whilst most tuition takes the form of outdoor scenic work I'm very happy to help with portrait or people photography. You may well have noticed from my website that I am an active professional portrait photographer and it's certainly true that many of the basic photographic concepts can be applied to all genres including portraits.
During a standard tuition session we would not normally have access to portrait models but if you have children, grandchildren, nephews or nieces who are willing to be "guinea pigs" then that's absolutely fine - they wouldn't be needed for the full three hours.
I'm sure your are aware that digital photography does not just stop with knowing how to use a camera. To enhance and enjoy your images you will also need to have an understanding of how to upload, manage and adjust your images. All of the pictures on this site have been edited in some way, for instance the photo above started life as five separate shots that were merged together to create a panorama.
If you would like to combine some software tuition alongside your "on location" tuition then that's is no problem either, please just ask and we'll arrange it.
